Safety Data and B.A.S.I.C. Scores Explained
What is B.A.S.I.C. scores?
FMCSA B.A.S.I.C. stands for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories. It is a system that measures the on-road safety performance of carriers and drivers based on seven categories: Unsafe Driving, Hours of Service Compliance, Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances/Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance, Hazardous Materials Compliance, and Crash Indicator. The FMCSA uses these scores to identify high-risk carriers and drivers and prioritize them for interventions such as inspections, investigations, or warnings.
Easily look up new carriers and enter new carriers in your TMS system with Carrier Lookout. Go to the "Carrier" tab and choose "Add Carrier" from the submenu. Next enter in theri DOT or MC number and press "Continue". Carrier Lookout will automatically pull the carrier information including, email, phone, address, insurance, and safety data in a Carrier Information page. Ready to start working with the carrier? Press "Save" to save thier information to your TMS system.
Carrier "Health" Coloring System
Track the health of the carriers with our coded color system:
Red means that insurance is reported expired or missing, or that the B.A.S.I.C. or crash data looks concerning.
Yellow means that insurance is reported to expire shortly or that the B.A.S.I.C or crash data may be less then good.
Green means that insurance as reported in current and that the B.A.S.I.C. and crash data as reported looks good.
Carrier Insurance, B.A.S.I.C. and Crash "Health" Report
With Carrier Lookout, each Carrier has a "Health" report that tracks the insurance, B.A.S.I.C and crash data reported. To view, to the "Carrier" tab and choose your carrier. Enter in a new carrier, press "Save" to view. Once in the Carrrier Information page, go to the "Carrier Lookout" tab to view the Health report for that carrier.
Carrier Alert Warnings when Assigning to Loads
Carrier Lookout is designed to Alert you and your team when assigning a carrier with concerning or insufficient insurance or safety data to a load. When a user goes to assign such a carrier to an active load, a notice will appear alerting the user as seen below.
