Set Up Locate My Freight GPS Tracking
Before You Use This Article
- Access needed: Locate My Freight enabled on your Load Manager account. If you do not see the option, it may not be enabled for your account.
- Use this article when: your Load Manager account has Locate My Freight enabled and you are setting up or troubleshooting that connection. Company paths that commonly use this article: Freight Brokers or Dispatch Services.
- Use a different article when: you do not use this integration or feature; return to the company path that matches your current workflow: Freight Brokers, Carriers, Owner-Operators, and Trucking Companies, or Dispatch Services.
Use Locate My Freight GPS tracking when drivers should share location updates through Load Manager's mobile app or mobile dispatch workflow. Tracking depends on the dispatch method, the driver or carrier contact selected on the load, phone permissions, load status settings, and your company's GPS update interval.
Before you start: Locate My Freight must be enabled for your account. Applies to Freight Broker and Dispatch Service accounts.

Before You Begin
Before turning on or testing GPS tracking, confirm these items:
- Your company uses the Locate My Freight mobile app, Driver Web App, or another mobile dispatch workflow.
- The load has the correct carrier or driver assignment for your TMS type.
- The driver cell phone number is correct on the load.
- The pickup and delivery stop details are complete enough for your dispatch and geofence workflow.
- The driver is willing and able to allow location access on their phone.
- If you use MacroPoint or another third-party tracking provider, that integration is configured separately.
Review Mobile Dispatch Settings
Mobile dispatch settings control which tracking options your team can send from a load.
- Go to Settings >> Configuration Options.
- Review the mobile dispatch or e-dispatch settings for your company.
- Confirm the correct dispatch option is available for your workflow, such as Mobile App, Driver Web App, Web App with MacroPoint, or MacroPoint.
- Save your changes.
Use Mobile App when the driver should use the Locate My Freight app. Use Driver Web App when the driver should open a browser link instead of installing the app.
Set the GPS Tracking Interval
The GPS tracking interval controls how recently Load Manager expects a GPS point before a load is treated as actively tracking. A shorter interval can provide more frequent updates, but it can also use more phone battery and mobile data.
- Go to Settings >> Configuration Options.
- Find the GPS update or GPS tracking interval setting.
- Enter the interval your team wants to use.
- Save your changes.
- Send a test mobile dispatch and confirm the driver's location updates appear on the GPS Tracking screen.
Choose Which Load Statuses Can Track
Load Manager uses load status settings to decide whether a load is active for mobile tracking. If the load is not in an allowed status, the GPS Tracking screen may show Invalid Load Status.
- Go to Settings >> Load Status.
- Open the status that should be available for mobile tracking.
- Enable the option that allows that status to appear or remain active in the mobile app or mobile web app.
- Repeat for each status your drivers should use while tracking.
- Save the status settings.
Common active tracking statuses are usually dispatch, covered, loaded, or in-transit statuses. Your company may use custom status names.
Review Notes Shown to Drivers
If your company uses the Show Carrier Notes on Mobile App setting, review whether carrier or driver notes should display in the mobile workflow. Turn this on only when the notes are appropriate for the driver to see.
For instructions that must be visible to the driver, use the driver-facing notes or critical notes fields on the load instead of internal-only notes.
Send a Load for GPS Tracking
- Open the load.
- Confirm the carrier or driver assignment and driver cell phone number.
- Select the mobile dispatch option your company uses.
- Choose Mobile App, Driver Web App, Web App with MacroPoint, or MacroPoint, depending on your setup.
- Review the message and phone number.
- Send the dispatch or tracking request.
After a Mobile App dispatch, the driver needs to install or open Locate My Freight and allow location access. After a Driver Web App dispatch, the driver needs to open the link and allow location access in the phone browser.
Confirm GPS Tracking Is Working
- Go to All Loads >> GPS Tracking.
- Open the Load List tab.
- Find the load.
- Review the Tracking, Location, and Last Update columns.
- Click Map to open the map view for that load.
Load Manager screen example
Customer-specific company names, contacts, addresses, account numbers, and phone/email details are omitted from this public help article.
What the Tracking Status Means
- Tracking: Load Manager has received a recent GPS update for the load.
- Tracking Paused: The load is eligible for tracking, but Load Manager has not received a recent GPS update.
- Waiting on Driver App Install: The load is waiting for the driver to install or activate the mobile app workflow.
- Invalid Load Status: The load is not in a status that is active for mobile tracking.
- Tracking Completed: Tracking has ended for the load.
- Delivered Early or Interrupted: Tracking ended earlier than expected or stopped before the expected delivery window.
MacroPoint Is Separate
MacroPoint tracking is a separate integration. If you use MacroPoint, the MacroPoint credentials and MacroPoint-specific setup must be configured separately from Locate My Freight or Driver Web App settings.
Use the MacroPoint setup article when the tracking request is sent through MacroPoint instead of the Locate My Freight mobile app.
Troubleshooting
- No GPS updates appear: Confirm the driver opened the app or web link, allowed location access, and has a working data connection.
- The load says Waiting on Driver App Install: Ask the driver to install or open Locate My Freight, then resend the Mobile App dispatch if needed.
- The load says Invalid Load Status: Confirm the current load status is enabled for mobile tracking in Load Status settings.
- The wrong dispatch option appears: Review the mobile dispatch or e-dispatch settings in Configuration Options.
- The driver cannot change status: Confirm mobile status updates are enabled for the statuses your drivers should use.
- MacroPoint tracking is not working: Review MacroPoint setup and the driver's phone consent workflow.
