Turn On Location Permissions for Driver GPS Tracking
Turn On Location Permissions for Driver GPS Tracking
[Audience: External Drivers, Carrier Drivers, Dispatchers, and Admin Users]
Use this article when a driver's phone is not sharing GPS location with Load Manager, the Driver Web App, or the Locate My Freight mobile app. The exact menu names can vary by phone model and software version, but the driver usually needs to allow location in two places: the phone's main location setting and the app or browser permission.
Before You Start
- The driver must have a working cellular or internet connection.
- The driver must allow location access when the app or browser asks for permission.
- If the driver is using the Driver Web App, the phone browser must be allowed to use location for the Load Manager dispatch page.
- If the driver is using the Locate My Freight mobile app, the phone must allow location access for that app.
- If the driver is using a third-party tracking app, such as MacroPoint or Trucker Tools, check that app's location permission instead.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Location Services.
- Turn Location Services on.
- Select the app or browser being used for dispatch, such as Safari, Chrome, or Locate My Freight.
- Allow location access while using the app or website.
- Turn Precise Location on when available.
Android Phones
- Open Settings.
- Tap Location.
- Turn Use location on.
- Open App location permissions or App permissions.
- Select the app or browser being used for dispatch, such as Chrome or Locate My Freight.
- Allow location access while using the app.
- Turn on Precise location or Location Accuracy when available.
Samsung Galaxy Phones
- Open Settings.
- Tap Location.
- Turn location on.
- Tap App permissions.
- Select the app or browser being used for dispatch.
- Choose an option that allows location while the app is in use.
- Turn on improved accuracy options when available.
If the Driver Uses Chrome
If the driver denied location access in Chrome, the browser may continue blocking the dispatch page even after phone location is turned on.
- Open the dispatch link in Chrome.
- Tap the site information icon near the address bar.
- Open Permissions or Site settings.
- Set Location to allow for the dispatch page.
- Refresh the page and allow location if prompted again.
After Location Is Enabled
- Close and reopen the app or browser page used for dispatch.
- Open the dispatch link or the assigned load again.
- Allow location if the phone asks again.
- Wait for the next GPS update to reach Load Manager.
- Refresh All Loads >> GPS Tracking in Load Manager to check the latest update.
Still Not Tracking?
If location is turned on but Load Manager still does not show a recent GPS update, check these common issues:
- The phone has weak cell service or no internet connection.
- The driver allowed approximate location only instead of precise location.
- The driver opened the dispatch link in a different browser than the one that has permission.
- The driver is using private/incognito browsing and the location permission was not saved.
- The phone battery saver or low power mode is limiting background activity.
- The load has reached a status that stops GPS tracking.
